Welcome to Giant Steps, the online children’s book and toy store. The name Giant Steps came from the game, Mother May I. We help young readers take the best steps (baby or giant steps) they can to reach their goals.

After 14 years as a physical and virtual store located in Fremont California, Giant Steps is now an exclusively on-line business. We miss talking face to face with our customers, especially the children that grew up with our store. The website allows us to continue to spread our passion for children’s books and educational toys. Joyce and Dominique still read and review books with the reader in mind – is it a fun read? We are not librarians or teachers but serious “consumers” of children’s books. We strive to read from a child’s point of view. Of course, we have our book preferences. Some books reflect Joyce’s interest in health, foods and Asian American literature; Dominique is a big fan of fantasy and mystery. Regardless, we always look for a great story and developmental age appropriateness.

The toys we promote don’t use batteries nor do we sell electronic or computer toys. We also do not sell mass-marketed toys. Not that we disapprove of Sesame Street or Disney toys, we appreciate their appeal to television savvy kids, but there are resources for those elsewhere. We believe that the more imagination a child puts into a toy, the more creativity results.
