Fourteen years ago, Joyce Peters started an
independent bookstore called Giant Steps Children's Books.
The store was filled to the brim with books for ages infant
to 16 years, and with educational toys from around the
world.
The store was named for the game "Mother May
I", wherein children ask to take Giant Steps. It is the
belief of the staff that children should take the biggest
steps they can, to reach their potential.
There's been a change in Fremont, our home
town. Big chain stores moved in, and all the independent
bookstores had to
close their storefronts, Giant Steps
included. Instead, Joyce has chosen to continue her store as
an Internet store, still offering the best toys and books we
can find.
Dominique, pictured below, is our web site
coordinator. She loves books; you can find the books she
loves for all ages in our
Book Review section.
Together Joyce and Dominique write book reviews for the Tri-City Voice, in a column called "Footnotes". You can see their reviews there, and can even search the archives.
